Avidemux An efficient and fast video editor
Avidemux is a video editor and an encoder. It's a completely free, surprisingly powerful tool, perfect for basic editing if a little limited overall.
The Avidemux interface is fairly straightforward. Several controls on the bottom of the screen allow you to scan around a video to make changes, and a tools menu allows you to make basic cuts and edits. This program looks like it was made for Windows 2000, but the big buttons and dated color scheme don't detract from usability.
When you're ready to make a file from your video, you can select from a number of different formats and apply filters as needed for the desired effect. You'll probably need to spend a few hours with Avidemux in order to use it properly, but while it's not particularly intuitive, it's very powerful for a free application. Amateur directors will probably prefer a paid tool, but Avidemux has a pretty awesome feature set for casual users. You can effortlessly cut videos, edit them together and encode your movies for your favorite mobile devices. Avidemux seems to convert and encode very quickly, so you probably won't need another video converter with this program installed on your PC.
